Fan-Aloe Tree
Fan-Aloe Tree
Established in a terracotta planter, the aloe specimen has already taken shape as a small bonsai type tree with a widening and woody trunk. The branches have taken form and the leaves have begun to twist and fan out. It usually takes 7+ years to reach this stage. Low maintenance and drought tolerant, the slow growing fan-aloe can grow to several feet in height and diameter.
Our coastal Mediterranean climate makes it conducive to grow a healthy fan-aloe, similar to its native region…
“Kumara plicatilis, formerly Aloe plicatilis, the fan-aloe, is a succulent plant endemic to a few mountains in the Fynbos ecoregion, of the Western Cape in South Africa. The architectural plant has an unusual and striking fan-like arrangement of its leaves. It may grow as a large multistemmed shrub or as a small tree.” (www.llifle.com)
